They went from 4-12 to 11-5 in one off-season. Not many teams have done that or anything like it. I;ve said this before but if you look at the rosters of overnight turnaround teams, almost invariably, you can see that they were already stocked with a great deal of playoff-level talent. Otherwise what you have is a rebuild, and that's a different animal.

If the Rams had not drafted well before 2017, they would still be rebuilding. I've used this detail before too--in 99, Vermeil had just 6 players on the entire team who were there before he arrived. In year 3, McVay is going to have a lot more than 6, and a lot of the casualties--players who left--were because good players became free agents and moved on (Rams can't pay everyone.)

Some get all offended by these facts because they think saying that McVay inherited a lot of talent is a way of dissing the coach. Nah. It has nothing to do with that, and I mean, like at all. Let's say McVay DID inherit a complete rebuild, something more like Carroll in Seattle or Vermeil in 97. Most likely he would not have won as much as he actually did in the real 2017. He would still be a good coach though.
