The draft articles either go back to 2012 or 2013; Snead was hired in 2012. My take is Snead has been consistently good at finding talent but McVay and his staff have been better at developing and utilizing that talent than Fisher and his staff were.

I think the difference between 2012-2016 drafts and 2017-2018 drafts is that the McVay/Snead combo is better at finding offensive players, in the draft and in free agency, than Fisher/McVay were. It's also true that the latter were sometimes just flat unlucky (they would have had an OL if not for injuries to Long and Wells). (Also, McV didn't have to move a team.) Boudreau was not good at choosing OL (though Hav and Brown are starters, but still that's 2 out of 8). (Incidentally that's still better than Hanifan, who was 3 out of 13, though I count Incognito as a bust for the Rams because he wasn't stable enough to stay on the team but then I also reluctantly count Barron as a hit)

I am sure that McVay is better than most coaches, including Fisher, at developing players, but I still don't think McV would have gotten a lot out of Quick, Pead, Richardson, Givens, Richardson, Stacy, and Austin. (Not counting Bailey and Mason because they were victims of non-football things.) So again McV/Sn are better at finding offensive players. Though at the same time, F/Sn did give them Gurley, Hav, and Goff. 2016 might be somewhat of an exception (Higbee is good in a role, maybe Cooper sticks in the league, maybe Thomas comes back and can contribute a little).
