it's one thing to say he looks like...reminds me of...

But to try to sell that he is...BS.

Win a playoff game.

Sometimes I think you take statements to literally...

A qb has certain traits, qualities, and playing style. One interesting way to get at that is to compare the guy to well-known figures who are the ideal versions of those traits. That's completely legit. It;s just description. So it has nothing to do with "at this stage." Goff has certain traits and characteristics. One way to describe them is through comparisons. "At this stage" has nothing to do with THAT. "At this stage" is a comment aimed at those who say "Goff has done as much as Montana," which of course, no one has or would say.

It is complete conceptual confusion to then bring career accomplishments into it. It just confuses things. And no one is doing that--your criticism is aimed at nothing and no one. No one is saying Goff already IS Montana. They're saying he has some Montana-like traits.

I think in this case it's you who are taking things too literally. To draw on an analogy is not the same as declaring the 2 things are equivalent.

Who said he IS Montana? Again--no one said that. From the thread:

"Goff looks like Montana." Meaning his play style is in that mold.

"That is the best comparison for him." It;s a comparison, a descriptive analogy, aimed at identifying key traits. For example a bad comparison would be Staubach. Or Russel Wilson.

"comparisons to Montana and how he could move in the pocket": ie he has certain traits that are in the Montana mold (as, opposed, say, to a qb who has traits that are more in the Favre mold). Does not mean the young player being compared IS that recognizable ideal type.

If I say a young singer is more in the Aretha Franklin mold than in the Diana Ross mold that does not mean I said the new young singer is on a par with Franklin. It's just a way to describe a style.
