I'll pay attention to comparisons.
I find the fact that Goff looked up to Montana and wears his number kind of meaningless.
Goff has been Montana, Tom Brady, one of the all time greats...
People feel the need for love and admiration from the national media...I guess I get it. Frankly, I don't care.
What I care about is that Goff gets his first playoff win. That would be a nice start to the HOF accolades we are longing for.
So Fouts, Marino, Kelly, Tarkenton, Moon, McNair, K.Anderson were never great qbs because they don;t have the rings. Or at least they don't match up to Trent Dilfer or Mark Rypien or Nick Foles, who do.
This is conceptual confusion.
People are talking about the inherent traits and character of a young 3rd year qb and doing so through comparisons.
You come in with the whole "accomplishments" thing which is a different discussion.
Stick simply to traits and play style, and what describes Goff? Do you have anything to add to THAT discussion?
Or should we talk about how Gurley is not a gifted RB because unlike LeGarrette Blount, CJ Anderson, James Starks, Brandon Jacobs, Dominic Rhodes, Willie Parker, or Michael Pittman (to name a few) he has never been part of a superbowl winning team.
Traits, characteristics, play style, = one discussion.
Accomplishments = a different discussion.
I do agree with you on the "national accolades" thing. Don't need it. BUT I also think that that is a blindspot on the part of the national sports media. You know which NFL analysts absolutely love Goff? The guys who break down plays for a living. Orlovsky, Baldinger, Waldman, Bowen, those kinds of guys. The ones who study plays.
