You've got to identify the nucleus of the team. 7-10 players. Mostly at positions that have longevity built in (exception running back).
So, keep those players.
Now, as far as building for the future. Fill in with draft picks and low wage FA's everywhere else.
And have coaches who know what the heck they are doing.
I like the Rams approach. This really could be fine tuned for a very long time.
Think NE, Dallas (1970's), Pittsburgh.
