Aaron Donald will be designated as a DT in terms of his contract.
Think about what this means for the price of DTs on the market. The franchise tag just got bigger again!!!
Coupled with Suh...DTs are catching DEs.
I don't think every decent to good RB who comes up will claim they should be paid like Gurley. It will always be said that Gurley didn't get paid like an RB but instead started a new category for big and productive 3 down superbacks (like Elliott and Johnson). Some can legitimately claim to belong on that list, some can;t.
People are well aware that AD is a category apart and that other DTs can't claim to match him.
For that matter Suh got a deal for 19 M in 2015. The highest paid 4/3 DT right now is Cox, who gets 17 M in a deal he signed in 2016. The last 2nd contract by a DT was Short in 2017, and he got 16 M a year after Cox.
