First off, no one from Donald's camp has publicly stated that he is being offered "a fraction" of his worth. Near as I can tell, that comes from nowhere. More on the offer/demand in a moment.

Second off, a Donald contract does not set any kind of trend because he's in a unique category. He does not shake up a situation where many players are paid less than stars--he is a star. Not only that but there is not likely to be one like him any time soon. His category (which is unofficial) isn't even DT--according to the Rams it's "best defender in the league." How many of those will follow and how quickly?

Third off, and I wish you would respond to this, the Rams offer IS in fact low. (Very few respond to that. It makes me wonder if there even is a good argument against it.) By any applicable measure or parameters you want to use. So all we have is a situation where Donald is asking for 25 M, which he probably won't get, and the Rams are offering 21 M, which is low. Here's another thing I wish you would respond to--as I keep saying, isn't that a normal bridgeable difference that will probably lead to a compromise? (You keep having Donald stick to 25 M no matter what and I have seen nothing that indicates that. What I DO know is that 21 M is low and he is probably balking at it, and if the Raiders are talking similar amounts, then that would explain the delay with Mack, too).

So this whole routine about erasing a REAL conflict (21 M is too low) in the name of a conspiracy-sounding one (agents have ulterior motives) just doesn't ring true to me.

21 is low.

And besides, a Donald contract does not change the CBA or commissions on other deals around the league.

So I am not clear what you are saying the problem is here.
