If Donald reports by Aug. 7, he will be an UFA. There would be no mistake by the agent because he only needs 4 accrued seasons.
But if he doesn't report by that deadline then he wouldn't become a UFA and at first glance that does appear to be a mistake.
I say first glance because maybe it depends on his strategy. I originally thought the plan was to play out this season and refuse to play under a franchise tag. If this was the strategy he would need to become a UFA for it to work.
But in light of the article the other day, maybe his strategy is just to refuse to play at all...again...for the Rams if they don't pay him. A 'pay me, or move me' strategy.
If this is the plan, does it matter what type of free agent he is? Does it even matter IF he is free agent?
In theory, couldn't any player, including a rookie, essentially say I refuse to suit up for you and try to force the team into moving him?
