I'm not talking about what Donald has done, I'm talking about him spending one year extra as a restricted free agent when he at the same same time he could be a unrestricted free agent. Do you think Donald has more leverage as a restricted free agent or as an unrestricted free agent?
I'll answer the obvious: unrestricted. That's on his agent.
Agents have a necessary role in all of this. It's a service that even Richard Sherman used in spite of negotiating his own contract. He clearly made use of his past contracts and studied others all supplied by agents.
I'm not getting caught up in position money-quarterback money, top defensive player money, punter money- so you probably are going to miss some points I make if you pigeon hole what I'm saying about salaries and what they are.
My whole focus is on the errors made by Donald's representation.
Again, it's huge that Donald did not accrue his year towards unrestricted free agency. You agree or disagree?
Well my understanding is that Donald is a UFA in 2019 unless he doesn't report by the August deadline. This is his 5th year. They exercised the 5th year option on him. I am not sure what difference being eligible to be a UFA in 2018 would mean given than they did exercise the 5th year option.

Since Aaron Donald didn't report last year at least 30 days before Rams' 1st regular season game, he didn't get a year of service for free agency. He only has 3. 4 are needed to be a UFA. He won't get one this year either with a long holdout, which would make him a RFA in 2019.
This btw is the big conflict in Chicago involving another holdout player represented by the same agency.

Bears not having their top 10 pick in camp for 12 days b/c they want to be able to void his guaranteed $ if he gets suspended as a result of new helmet rule is galactically stupid. Not all holdouts are players/agents being greedy.
