AD can choose to sit and thereby forfeit millions while in his prime? Yeah, it’s doable. But is it really a credible option, or an option that makes any sense for AD to employ? Certainly not my idea of powerful leverage. More like cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face.
Or AD could possibly force a trade. As CeeZar outlined in his excellent thread, what would AD gain, really? He would likely wind up on a poor team with little chance at the playoffs, much less the SB. Assuming that a team acceptable to the Rams were found that was willing to pay “his price” AND give up the premium picks that the Rams would demand. Ram coaches, teammates, and winning record all gone. And for what? A couple of million more? Maybe? Is that the “leverage” that he craves?
Meanwhile, the clock is ticking on his prime earning years and the risk of catastrophic injury looms until he extends somewhere. Some leverage.
AD has already missed on millions that could now have been in his bank account had he extended last year. More millions will be lost this year if he fails to extend. And it only multiplies each additional year that he fails to extend. A slippery slope, indeed. Is THAT leverage?
AD has received colossally bad advice from his pos agent and there are no signs that he even knows it. The Rams have AD in a box negotiation wise. It’s Checkmate. The sooner that he figures this out and extends, the better.
Might not be what some hope for, I know. Just they way it is.
