I know if he sits he doesn't get paid. He knows that, the whole world knows that.
Where did I say it's not ok for the Rams to play hardball? Most of you are already wanting to focus on the Rams hardball options. I'm simply giving you AD's one option. No one knows how hardcore he'll be about going through with it so let's not get into speculation about how much he's willing to lose.
Instead...let's answer the question. IF he sits, what do you think the Rams do?
They have three options: 1) call his bluff and let him sit, 2) trade him, or 3) cave in and pay him.
Which door do you think they go through?
(I find it very interesting that very few people - one so far - are willing to consider potential outcomes and answer this question.)
The answers to that question is irrelevant... the point is what the Rams
could do.
Money is too important to AD to holdout .... call his bluff see what happens
What the Rams could do is very old news. We haven't had much discussion on what AD could do.
You better believe the Rams as organization have talked about this and have to plan for this. Fans are often too emotional to discuss such matters which is probably why there is so much reluctance to seriously consider and talk about the possibility of it happening.
You believe they would choose option 1. Fair enough. I tend to think option 2 would be the most likely result...but I could be wrong.
The problem with option 1 IMO is his salary would still count against the cap even if he wasn't playing and they would severely hurt their chances of winning a SB in 2019 without him.
2018 - 2019 are the years they're going all in. The timing is perfect because Goff is still cheap, Talib and Peters' contracts expire after 2019, Gurley will need a new contract after that year, etc. Donald sitting could throw a huge monkey wrench in the plans.
And we also know what AD’s options are also...but I highly doubt he’s dumb enough to even make it to next year without signing a new deal.
He’s already lost about $15M low estimate by not signing a deal last year, I just can’t see him being a martyr for setting a new market and leaving another $15M on the table and losing another year towards free agency... no way, no how!!!
He has leverage, we get it.....but the Rams have a lot more
