He has little leverage this year b/c of his screwup last year of not reporting in time and getting his fourth accrued season. But once this season is up, his contract expires and he does gain some leverage.
It's called holding out.
You say the Rams should tag him and they very well may go down that path. But AD can refuse to play under the tag. There is nothing obligating him from playing. That's his leverage.
I agree with you. Donald (as we know) will play in 2018 but if he's not signed by 2019, things could get tricky.
Which is why I hope he signs.
