As in, smart, heady, always ready, knows where the play is going, fills the right hole . . . but, far more likely to get TO the ball carrier before the ball carrier gets to him.
Both guys, one could say, aren't "elite" athletes. Solid. At least average. Not "elite." But they make this work on Saturdays/Sundays. They overcome their athletic limitations with smart play and awareness . . . and "want to."
Anyway . . . this is all too soon to say or predict, of course. Kiser hasn't played a down of NFL football. But I'm gonna go there anyway. He's going to be JL, but better. He's going to look to penetrate the offense, find the ball, and make a play. JL made tons and tons of plays . . . but he wasn't really the heat seeking missile type.
For next time: OO as Wilbur Marshall.
The differences? Kiser has the kind of serious thump as a physical player that JL didn;t. JL had enough athleticism in the pass game to drop into coverages and Kiser lacks that.
I can see that. Though I'm hoping Kiser ends up being better in coverage than we're assuming. But your description may be spot on. Mine was close to that. Yeah, Kiser is a thumper.
On a side note: John Franklin-Myers, judging from the video, is a thumper too. He may not even make the final 53, but he looks like he just wants to flatten offensive players.
I'm thinking if he can't do this on the field, he's got the right name to do it in the court room. His last name already sounds like part of a Law Firm.
