I should have made a distinction between ILB and OLB. Wade loves OLB. That's the position he's used the most premium picks on.
But the run stuffing ILB not so much.
I recently researched the last 20 years of Wade's defenses and he never spends premium resources on ILBs. He typically uses what's on the team already.
Every so often he'll trade for a former player, and every so often he'll pick up an inexpensive vet free agent on a very short term deal.
Does that sound familiar? It should. Ramik Wilson fits the profile. He's the guy.
Wade also doesn't draft that position. On his last 48 defensive draft picks, he's only drafted 3 ILB and none were in the 1st round.
The problem with this year's draft was that the top talent was heavy on the ILB group and suspect on the edge rusher position. I'm not surprised they bailed out of #23.
