Okay, first, Rams allowed 4.7 yards a carry last tear. Not an "amazing D" type of thing.
As far as his best defense, the 2015 Broncos and 1999 Bills.... In 2015 what did he do that was "putting players in best positions"? Answer: nothing. It was a great defense, that was not adjusted in any way. It was a rigid as any 3-4 you will find. Phillips did more for Donald and Rams defense in terms of adjustments than he did for either the 1999 Bills and 2015 Broncos. Donald got to move from side to side and he got to line up on outside shoulder of guard rather than a tackle.
So, let's pump the brakes on this narrative of Wade being some kind of innovator. He's not known for that. He's inherited legendary players who were great, most of them great before he got there.
So, as someone who has actually looked at this, there is no real precedent for moving a 3-tech tackle with Suh's body type and resume to nose or 5-tech that has been successful in his career.
Faith is nice, in church. But as fans, sometimes it's wise to at least ask some questions and see if the facts match the "legend".
Where to start, B&G?
First, Wade was forced to “make do” last year since the lion’s share of offseason attention went to the O. Not particularly fair to criticize Wade’s run D when he was forced to play non-fits so much. Three of those starting non-fits are now gone, btw.
Second, Wade’s career results with players and revitalizing D’s speaks for itself. Hell, it’s legendary.
Third, it is generally considered poor form to try to tear down another (Wade) in order to attempt to build up one’s own position. Just sayin’.
Fourth, my “faith” in Wade seems extraordinarily well placed. Talib is but the latest former player that was falling all over himself to come play for Wade again. Look at the Joyner and Brockers position moves just last year. I have ZERO doubt that Wade would find the best method of using Suh should he come on board.
