Being the scheme guy, he's the one who could answer how he would tailor it to accommodate two 3-techs. But since scheme is his genius, it appears that he thinks he can do it. Right?
.
There is only one scheme that has 3-techniques—the 46 defense or "Bear" front. When the Rams used it it was called the Eagle and when Rams ran it they utilized 5 LBers to do it and the "nosebacker" would sometime drop into what they called the "Hawk".
Fish and Gregg Williams would use it as a changeup. Wade used it last year. When we got gashed versus Jags, Wade adjusted to a form of it.
here are two stills:
This is a run stopping defense and I happen to like it, but it's not something, in this day and age can be used that much because it usually means you cannot play cover-2 in back of it. as a general rule.
So if it were 1985, having Donald and Suh on same line with Brockers inbetween would be great, but that defense is something you might be able to use maybe 10-15% of the time. Heck, even the Bears only used it 40% of time in 1985 and for the few years after that it was more like 20% and they were masters of it,
So I get your enthusiam, it's just that even though never thought it could happen, I am not sold on the idea of Suh
