This is kinda simple if you ask me, Dead.
There is zero doubt that the kid can play at an elite level. And he’s dirt cheap for at least 2 seasons.
We’re agreed so far, right?
So, it come down to whether he’s a locker room distraction that constitutes a net negative on this team.
Yeah, it could happen. But I’m betting that it won’t.
I have tremendous confidence in McVay, Wade, and Pleasant in terms of shaping Peters into a more mature player from a coaches pov.
Ditto for our players and especially team leaders. There might be bumps and bruises at first, but probably nothing unmanageable. Even a come to Jesus meeting or two with an AD or Ogletree. Perhaps Big Whit has “a cup of coffee” with him?.
My point is that the team culture of we, not me is not merely a catchphrase. It is legit and it is strong with these 53 guys. That should be enough to sufficiently turn Peters around.
Andy Reid is a players coach, and a darned good one. But Reid is 59 while McVay is a young 32. Maybe McVay might have a better chance of relating to the immature Peters? I dunno, but I think it might be possible.
The kid has so much to gain by getting his act together. And so much to lose if he craps out here. Overwhelming incentive to do the right thing. He’s gonna hear that from his agent, his coaches, his friends, and everybody else that really cares about him.
I understand your concerns, but this seems like a risk well worth taking. Only time will tell. No guts, no glory.
