Look, I know that I’m in the minority on this Watkins contract matter. But, hey, it’s a message board and I’m just sharing my opinions. As do many others.
As to McVay saying kind things and blaming himself for Watkins shortcomings? That’s just pure McVay. He even kept saying kind things about Tavon, as I recall. An admirable quality in a leader, but not necessarily one to lean on too much when trying to assess McVay’s true feelings about a given player’s Ram value.
I guess I’m too old fashioned. I still believe that a player should achieve big results BEFORE receiving his big contract. Modest achievements, modest contract. Proportionate incentives, IOW.
Sigh...
Having said all that, I will support whatever decisions that S&M make regarding Watkins. I really trust those guys.
Until then, we’re all just a bunch of friends shooting the breeze in the offseason while we await FA and the draft.
