I sense your frustration 43, and I admire your persistance. But what if McVay REALLY REALLY wants to keep Watkins? Could you see McVay blaming Sammy's lack of production on his play calling instead of blaming the player? No doubt that he is holding Sammy accountable - remember the sit down session he held with him when Sammy was complaining about not getting the ball enough?
I think that McVay has seen enough of Watkins to make the choice himself as to whether or not to keep him - and that decision takes into account his production, or lack thereof. All of McVay's public statements about him have been positive, to the extent where his success has paid enough dividends to bring him back. Unless it's coach speak, he wants him back.
I believe that the Rams will re-sign Sammy to a long term contract or franchise tag him. And I'm okay with that. To me, it's not about the money and it's even not about the stats. This Rams team just won their division and made the playoffs. Sammy had an impact - not with the stats we all wanted - but with his TDs, his blocking, his having to be accounted for. It's a team game and his contributions were highly valued by his head coach who just turned this franchise around.
Remember one of the first videos we saw of McVay? He alluded to the fact that "we gotta make sure we have great body language. Don't let anyone else see us blink." To me, that quote referred to showing confidence, all the time, and putting the fear in the opposing team. Sammy helps complete that vision just by showing up.
Now showing up is not enough - of course! And I do expect Sean to scheme more plays in the offseason for Sammy to run. But there's so much more potential to this WR that has gone untapped. And he demands attention so that opposing defense cannot cheat. Want to play your #1 CB on Woods or Kupp? Sammy will make you pay. And it's up to McVay to make it happen. IMO - he will, he will. And McVay will get him signed for next year.
Here's that video again -->
