I'm making an observation about the human psyche.
Ever had an injury ... like maybe to your back ... in which it takes months to recover? And then, even after you feel you are healthy, you do something that you *know* had been very painful. Maybe go out for a run. And you remember that pain? And you think, as you begin that process, 'I'm worried about doing this?'
That is what I mean.
Goff has played lights out. But this memory that people have of him struggling last year ... which have ALSO been so horribly blown out of proportion by *some people* in the time since ... there's this lingering fear of a regression into what people perceived him of being last year.
I read McVay's actions at the end of yesterday's game as a very, very smart move in showing his defense, his defensive coordinator and his defensive coaches ... 'I have faith in you.' Which, to me, is going to pay a whole helluva lot more dividends in the long run than some game-clinching TD at the end of yesterday's game. That, imo, fits his MO a lot more closely than the idea that he was taking the football out of Goff's hands because he was worried about some crushing mistake. Because ... again ... I don't buy it. Why would he have the kid throw on 3-and-11 from his own 11 early in the 4th quarter if he was so worried about some soul-crushing mistake?
That's the way I see it.
You are welcome to see it however you want.
