Well, I disagree with ya bad guy, but frankly I think there are very valid arguments on both sides.
By playing it safe and settling for the FG, a case can be made that McVay was sending a message to the D: "I believe in you to win this."
However, had McVay chosen to let Goff attempt a pass for the first down (or a shot in the end zone) I think it's understandable that fans would think he was sending a message to Goff:" I trust you to win this."
I certainly don't think it's fair to accuse posters of carrying "left-over negative energy from last year." Frankly, I feel just the opposite: I have been so impressed with Goff's performance that I wish he had been given the opportunity to win the game outright on that crucial play.
One reason all of us love McVay is he has done a masterful job of maximizing Goff's chances for success and minimizing his chances for failure. In my personal opinion, if we are lucky enough as Rams fans to still have McVay as our head coach and Goff as our QB in a similar situation 10 years from now, McVay's choice might be different. If Goff were a 10 year vet, I think McVay would be more inclined to put the ball in his hands on that crucial third down and and say, "I know this decision involves some risk, but I trust my QB enough to go out there and take a chance at winning it."
Look, we're all ecstatic with the win. Glad the D held on in the last drive.
But all of us are looking forward to that moment when Goff comes through with that end-of-game all-or-nothing do-or-die signature drive that seals a victory.
