By 'settling' for the field goal ... he also showed a LOT of confidence in the Rams' defense ... and in Son of Bum to close the deal.
In a long season ... that is significant.
No ... it won't show up on a stat sheet.
But ... it will *resound* in a locker room that is really gelling as a singular unit.
With that decision ... to go for the FG up 32-30 ... McVay was in effect telling the defense ... the MUCH-MALIGNED defense ... 'I've got faith in you. Go win it.'
That simply cannot be measured.
I wanted to see them put it away completely with a TD. As much as anybody.
But as I think about what happened ... that decision may mean much more to this team's future than any type of TD could have.
Well, could also be read as "didn't trust Goff not to turn it over/not to get sacked/not to stop the clock w/an incomplete pass." In other words, maybe he didn't trust the offense. OTOH, go for it and if you miss, *trust* the defense not to yield the field goal. Works both ways.
