I know there's the standard "he's ahead of schedule" stuff with his rehab but reality is he had surgery January 10th and the odds of him starting any football-related activity before September are pretty small. He's really talented but I don't think the Rams are in the kind of position to red shirt a high draft pick. I don't think he's a viable option for the Rams unless he fell to the 4th round.
TEs often have a pretty long learning curve. Butt is probably the most polished product on the field at the TE position in this draft....Howard is the only other TE in the conversation and he's the more complete blocker/Butt the more complete receiver. So his recovery time vs the other TEs learning curve probably has Butt being a key contributor earlier anyway.
