I'm tainted by the Rams awful offense of the past 10 years. I'm tired of watching them start a drive and being pleased with a couple first downs and a FG. They need some playmakers that are going to make defenses nervous and think twice about bringing that 8th (or 9th...) guy up into the box. They need TEs that can be motioned out into the slot, create match-up problems with OLBs and safeties and get up the seam
fast.
To me combining Higbee- who I think McVay can do A LOT with- and Engram could be a great pairing. Higbee is also not a finished product from a blocking standpoint. I'm sure there is a lot of teaching planned there. It's not that he wasn't a willing blocker in college and last summer was being reported as a "willing student of the blocking game."
Both Higbee and Engram have abilities that you can’t teach. In a better, more creative scheme they can each get downfield and help complement (and offset) the Rams mediocre set of current WRs.
I like well-rounded, good blocking TEs as much as anyone. But in my opinion the Rams running game improvements will come (or not) from an improved offensive line and improved (more aggressive) passing scheme. The in-line blocking of Higbee or Engram (if they drafted him) isn't going to make or break Gurley becoming a 1,300-yard back.
