I'm conflicted, Paul.

On the one hand, none of these whiz kid coordinator candidates have earned the right to even think about demanding final say on personnel matters.

On the other hand, is Snead the best possible GM at this difficult time?

Here's an off the wall thought, but just bear with me for a second.

What if the decision has already been made to retain Snead, but in some type of Director of Player Personnel capacity? Because he has shown that his recommendations were good ones overall, despite being overruled occasionally by Fisher? They could give him a nice title and maybe a raise to ease public perceptions. He could then enhance his reputation for a year or two and be among the top future GM candidates.

Meanwhile, the Rams could hire a long term strong immediate Reggie McKenzie GM type. Something that I still believe should have been Job One, btw.

This would result in the following:

New HC has only to concentrate on hiring his asst coaches and reviewing film and start his roster pruning process.
Snead continues filling the pipeline with solid players of the type that his new HC desires.
New GM can begin a strategic program to oversee all football related personnel matters without having a coaching search, new scouting dept, FA, and the draft hitting his plate virtually all at once.

Or am I just dreaming here?
