Ian Rapoport reported this morning on NFL Network that the Rams keeping their current defensive coaching personnel is a very real possibility.
It seems more and more that Kroenke and Demoff were most concerned about just cleaning house with Fisher and his offensive coaches.
Could you imagine if both Snead stays as GM and Williams stays as DC? Personally I would like them to move on from Williams all together and although I like Snead, think he needs to go as well.
Excellent thread topic, Paul.
I have mixed feelings about both Snead and Williams.
Generally speaking, I think that GW should be 100% the decision of new HC certainly NOT a Demoff/Kroenke prerequisite. However, if the new HC were to keep GW, it would not break my heart. I do think that GW has a tendency to get too cute at times, and I've long despised that prevent defense. But overall, he's an above average DC that should thrive with halfway decent O support. Something that he's never enjoyed with the Rams.
Snead? Demoff knows whether Snead was in the "right" on those personnel decisions that went sideways. If Snead was indeed "right" most of the time, then he has value as a talent evaluator, at least. But I would prefer a strong Reggie McKenzie type GM that could be trusted with the overall strategic decisions that go well beyond player eval. THAT should be Job One, imo.
I would hang onto Fassel, if possible. A bird in the hand thing. But if the new HC to be hired insisted on a change there, I would certainly defer.
So, those would be my druthers.
Unfortunately, it appears that the Rams are gonna work this backwards and get their HC first, then "settle" for a GM that's okay with that.
I wish them luck, 'cause they're gonna need it.
