Ian Rapoport reported this morning on NFL Network that the Rams keeping their current defensive coaching personnel is a very real possibility.
It seems more and more that Kroenke and Demoff were most concerned about just cleaning house with Fisher and his offensive coaches.
Could you imagine if both Snead stays as GM and Williams stays as DC? Personally I would like them to move on from Williams all together and although I like Snead, think he needs to go as well.
I can't stand Williams. I think he promotes thuggish play, and doesn't seem to care at all about penalties and worse. Fisher can't be blamed for
all of that, though he did set the tone. But Williams came to the Rams with that rep already secured for himself, especially via the Saints. The two men, together, IMO, are toxic in many ways . . . but especially from the angle of "ethical play," which is important to me as a fan. I want to be able to root for a team that plays by the rules and sets an example that kids can emulate, etc. Not one that requires parents telling them, "This is not how you should play the game," and so on.
And the thing is, of course, you don't need to play dirty, ever, to play well and win. You don't need to encourage it to get your players to play well and win. Draft intelligent, ethical players with athletic talent and abilities and coach them up. Coach them to play fair, etc.
It may be that I'm being unfair to Williams, and I can easily admit I am far, far from having any kind of "insider's" knowledge regarding his methods and procedures. But from the point of view of a fan looking in from the outside, I want him gone.
Time for the Rams to clean house -- all of it. They need their own Herakles, because they certainly
have Augean Stables in need of major cleaning.
