I personally like GW but you don't force him or any coach on the new HC. If the new HC likes him, then he stays.
Get an OC in that is happy with keeping GW as his DC and doesn't have to change the defensive scheme and also sell Les Snead on him as the GM.
If something like this were to ever materialize, what I don't like about it is that the control and manipulation would be ultimately coming from up top. Bad idea from non-football guys.
Well in this scenario, wouldn’t they be making Snead a real GM? If so, he would be the football guy in charge and the control and manipulation coming from the top would be normal. Unless of course Snead is not up to the task of being a real GM.
But as for the defensive coaches, there would be no control or manipulation. If the new HC has any problem whatsoever with any of the defensive staff, they’re out. Having an idea come from the top is not a problem, it’s not control; forcing the idea on the new HC would be control.
If that's the case wouldn't Demoff announce first and foremost that Snead is being retained as the Rams GM, rather than telling the media his future is uncertain? It sounds like the new head coach hire would have to approve of Snead in at least some capacity the same way Fisher did. Remember though it was Demoff who brought Snead in originally. It's obvious to me that Demoff would like to retain Snead, but he will have to see if the new head coach hire would be ok with that first like Fisher was. How did that turn out?
What exactly do you mean by forcing it on a new head coach? If the head coach candidate doesn't approve and they try to force it on him, I would think he would turn the job down all together. It is possible however this potential new head coach could be pursuaded by Demoff into keeping both Williams and Snead. If that ever happened, it sure sounds like a form of control to me and it would ultimately be decisions made from Demoff/Kroneke and not the GM or HC. You know, another one of those so called collaborative effort things like we saw with Demoff/Fisher/Snead. Didn't work out so well. I'm sure the difference this time around, is the Rams learned their lesson giving full control to their head coach and will let their GM actually be a GM to at least a larger degree than Snead was with the Rams these past 5 seasons. They could get lucky. We will see.
