I love psychology and psychological theory, it's actually my main focus in life. My main focus within that is how difficult it is to change established habits ... everything in our mind is set up for stasis, creating meaningful change is nearly impossible. It takes focus, relentless optimism, effort, and commitment JUST FOR THE MENTAL SIDE. T
Well if you're interested in that consider this.
What is the psychology of magnifying one negative instance and acting as if it were typical when it's not.
That is, how many times this season has the defense caved in the last couple of minutes and given a game away?
It is happened the OTHER way far more often. Like last week, with the Ogletree INT.
Yet people seem to be acting as if this one game was representative of the defense in the final minutes.
Real "count up the actual instances" truth is, it's NOT.
So why are many of us acting like it IS.
...
First off, a key point about me. Not everything I post is about the "Fisher wars." A lot of times I focus on a specific issue, and press in on it like turning a microscope on it.
So leave whether or not you (you being whoever) want to keep Fisher or not (and this one issue won't decide it). On late game collapses by the defense---more often than not, they have come through. And don't worry about that if you are on a constant Fisher war hunt. This issue by itself will not determine whether he leaves or stays one way or another. To me it's just being accurate about a detail.
how many times this year has the defense choked when the Rams had a lead in the final minutes and it’s up to them to preserve the win?
Seattle. Rams go up 9-3 at the start of the 2nd half, and the defense holds on to a win for nearly 2 quarters.
Tampa. The Bux are down by 5 with a little over 2 minutes left, and the Rams defense does not let them score after the offense had punted from the 5.
Arizona. Rams take the lead with just over 2 minutes left, and then the defense seals the win with an INT.
Detroit. Offense is on fire, but the defense cannot shut the Lions down in the final minutes. Lions break a tie and go up by 3. That’s on the defense.
Jets. Rams take the lead with 6:52 left in the half, and the defense preserves the win with an Ogletree INT.
Miami. Rams have a 10-0 lead late in the 4th, and the defense fails to preserve the win, and in fact loses by handing drives to them with stupid penalties.
So they were in that situation 6 times this year, and the defense pulls it off as opposed to choking 4 times. Not good enough but not that bad.
