Might not work for everyone, but these sure have worked well for me for the past few years.
I'm essentially a Ram fan. I follow closely all Ram matters, certainly including their games. But unless the Rams are appearing on Thurs, Sunday, or Mon night, I'm nowhere to be found. It would have to be an exceptional matchup and/or one directly impacting the Rams to entice me to watch. An example might be a Seahawk/Card matchup with playoff implications involving the Rams. In this way I avoid the oversaturation issue.
I watch the game after allowing it to pre record about one hour of the broadcast. Sometimes 1 1/2 hours of recording. Try it just one time. It's very liberating. You can avoid an hour to an hour and a half of annoying commercials and halftime BS. And you'll still finish the game in approx "real time" which is important if the Ram game is the early game. This totally eliminates the commercial annoyances and gives you an hour of your life back to do other things.
Sunday ticket is a must. It allows for channel surfing to the most interesting non Ram games while before or after that all important Ram game. Again, essentially commercial and BS free viewing. I know that probably most of us have ST, but for the few that don't... well, like I said, it's a must. Especially when it's "free". Lol. Again, eliminates the commercial annoyance issue.
Lastly, there's a new twist for me that enhances my enjoyment AND eliminates the commercial annoyances. I go to the Game Time forum during the game. I'm still recording the game, of course, but I'm watching it "live". Now my "commercial time" is filled with the enjoyment of reading and exchanging real time commentary with many of my board buddies. It's a lot more fun to rejoice or agonize with board buddies over big plays made (or not made) by the Rams than to have to endure those danged commercials. Not unlike being in the stands. Sorta...
I realize that not all of these suggestions would work for everybody, but they sure have worked nicely for me. I urge my board buddies to at least give them a try. You, too, may find one or more of these suggestions to be liberating.
