Keenum has played ok overall. No more than solid in two games and obviously a disaster in SF. I'm clearly saying that isn't enough and I thought it would be. He simply doesn't read the field very well after the snap and I believe it's for the reasons I stated. He's very safe and doesn't have a ton of confidence in his arm. It could be that he doesn't process information quickly or when under fire but that would be a terrible trait for a QB so I will give him the benefit of the doubt on that.
Don't want to continue on here because this thread is not about Keenum but Spruce
I don;t think anyone would dispute the stuff I red-bolded.
But...isn't enough for what? For a place-holder who is not expected to be a #1?
He has started 8 games in the last 2 years, 10 in the last 3. Neither team, whether it be Houston or the Rams, has lost a game where he had a qb rating of 80 or more. So 7 of 10 games, a team won with him at qb. He obviously isn;t the sole or even central cause of that, but, he's not causing them to lose either. He contributes enough for a team with a defense and a running game to win.
So...he isn't doing enough for what? It can;t be he isn't doing enough to be the permanent starter because no one thinks he will be. It can't be he isn't doing enough to contribute to wins because 7 of 10 games they did win.
Discussing Keenum is odd. I will openly and explicitly say he's a #2 caliber qb and a placeholder till Goff starts. Yet the conversation seems like this. People will respond to the statement saying "he's a #2 caliber qb and a placeholder till Goff starts" with the counter-cliam that "he's just a #2 caliber qb and just a placeholder till Goff starts." It sounds as if they think someone is saying "he's a franchise qb and the future of the Rams."
