Goff was not highly touted by only the Rams... but by nearly everyone, that I heard 'chime' in on him anyway. Watching his hi-lights this was very obvious to me... he made plays work, and he did that using a lot more tools than Keenum uses - one of which was 'spotting the open man'.
That's one of the reasons I keep suggesting that Goff, and I think Mannion as well, while certainly making mistakes whould they step into the starters role... most likely more than Keenum, they would also bring a whole arsenal of new talent that would more than override AND overcome those mistakes, IMHO.
Obviously, to me anyway, I'm not suggesting 'rushing' anyone... but I can't wait for the change... that I can't deny. - JamesJM
All this kind of thing tells me is that Keenum, in the eyes of the coaches, is still better at the things fans can't see.
This offense puts a lot on the qb.
He lines up under center and calls protections and/or audibles, and that means reading defenses pre snap. And audibles are so important in the Rams system, the truth is, no one can safely say the play they run is the play that was called. (Well except insofar as plays come with variations and switch-outs.)
He then drops from center (when he's in center) in perfect rhythm and responds to sight adjustments.
Etc. etc. etc.
That's a lot of stuff to keep in your head.
When that stuff is fluent in Goff's head he will probably start.
Meanwhile we're left, as fans, responding only to the things we see, and that's not a fair way to evaluate it.
If Keenum weren't doing all that invisible (to fans) stuff right, then yeah there would be no point in having him in there.
