Well u get my meaning. No one excepted Bulger to be a starter. But i get that u like Keenum. I don't which u know. As much as i hate to say it, I'd he continues to start the rams season will go down the drain like the last 12 years. I've seen it many times.
No one expected Warner to be a starter either.
For that matter, same with Trent Green when he started out.
No...you can;t just turn these distinctions into a joke.
And being ignorant of what a player can do because he hasn't played yet is not the same as definitively knowing he is a #2 caliber qb.
That's why, notice, not many say anything when it comes to this about Mannion. Is he a starting caliber qb? Or is he a #2 caliber qb? So he is in the category of "don't really know yet."
We can answer that with Keenum because this is his 5th year in the league and he has started 18 games. Before this year, 15. Before last year, 10. You can judge from that.
In terms of Keenum, he's a placeholder and back-up who is starting...but he's a pretty good one of those. He's not going to start 12 more games and I doubt anyone anywhere thinks he will. But the fact is, in the last 3 years combined, when he has started, his team has gone 7-3. I am not sure why that's to be scoffed at.
It;'s easy to point out his limitations but not so easy to point out why he is doing well overall in spite of them. I don't see where many people seem to get what his strengths and virtues are.
BUT he cannot carry the team, he probably can't get them to come back from deep behind. He just has to play mid-80s level in terms of qb rating and that's enough to contribute to wins.
He does enough to be the best #2 the Rams have had in over a decade. And it's not because of stuff that you analyze at the combine...measurables stuff.
