Thought Mannion looked a little better than you did. While I agree that his mechanics are weird, if he gets it done Arnold Palmer-style I don't really mind so much. And he did get it done, imo. I much prefer preseason guys playing above their abilities, rather than below them. I think Mannion makes the team again, and I'm coming out a little higher on him this year. I disliked the pick and this game was the first glimmer that I might have been wrong.
Seau intrigued me, as did Westbrooks. Some of those "if only" guys, "almost", "just a bit more here and there" guys. Westbrooks should continue to play for the rams IMO. Seau has a good shot at making the team, even with the missed sack.
I was just a bit disappointed with Goff. He has the arm (oo boy!), and I am glad to have him on the team and still like the pick/trade. You put into football knowledge what I didn't know how to say when I was talking to Sag yesterday after church. I observed that I wasn't seeing the football awareness and elusiveness that really (!!) impressed me with his college tape. You explained the stunt/delay and how QB's can sniff it out, and the just-too-slow processing. It gives me some confidence that with dedicated study, he can avoid that stuff in the future.
Maybe you were being circumspect, but I said it on the GTF: I AM REALLY GONNA MISS JINKS. And McLeod for that matter. the facepalm on the double-move was EXACTLY the kind of mistake that Jinks would make on occasion, but usually he was quick to realize it, and so alarmingly athletic that he could often recover. We don't have anybody like that in the backfield anymore. Oh man, I'm gonna miss JJ.
Right on, altogether. Sensabaugh Oy Vey! I had come to expect the opposite from him, maybe I'm reading too many camp reports. This team has a LONG way to go.
