If the Rams intend to keep Watkins they will need to get him signed before 2018 Free Agency. According to Vinny Bonsignore the Rams are in very good shape with cap space for 2018 and can get Watkins signed. Keep in mind others are coming up for new deals such as Alec Ogletree who is the general for the Rams on defense.
Aaron Donald is under contract. Logically they'd like to get his deal done soon as well but because they have more wiggle room / time left on his deal he may not get it done until much later.
Hopefully Donald isn't willing to sit out the whole season.
