Do the Rams bite the bullet and cut bait with these 2 offensive lineman?
I can't see how the Rams could possibly cut Noteboom. If they cut him today they would get no cap relief in 2023 (they'd carry another $6.5M in dead money this year and then another $15M in dead money next year).
Bruss is a possibility, though His cap hit is $1.1M and they'd get about half of that back if they cut him. It's certainly not a big motivator, but at least it's not a hindrance. It could come down to who they're willing to risk on the waiver wire.
The Rams might think McClendon is better than Bruss, but they might have intel that says Bruss would get claimed if he was cut where McClendon would clear waivers. From the Rams point of view they might prefer having Bruss on the roster and McClendon on the practice squad rather than having McClendon on the roster and Bruss on a different team.
Here’s my take.
Boom is uncuttable given his current contract. However, he could be a good swing OT for one year. Rams can re-evaluate their Boom options next year when everything is on the table. Personally, I think this is Booms last year as a Ram.
Bruss should NOT make the 53. No team is gonna claim him, trust me. Or just IR him and save that roster spot. Bruss should NOT be in long term Ram plans until further notice.
McClendon is gonna make the 53. Rams like him and his play has been encouraging. He might one day be a quality starting RT or RG. Rams will not jeopardize their future with McClendon by putting him through waivers.
