This is not about Bruss.

So he's shifted to tackle - what if Anchrum beats Bruss out at RG - doesn't that equally "hurt" Bruss' playing time?

This is about starting the best five on the O line, regardless of seniority or draft position. The next five are backups or rotational players - isn't that how it works, or should?

By definition ALL backup players have less playing time. Serve the writer a big mouthful of nothing-burger for stirring up a needless fuss - or trying to.

Does being a backup, at any position, "hurt" the player's playing time? If the player sees it that way, send them to a safe place with a pet rock or stuffed animal or adult coloring book full of kaliedescope and butterfly pictures, and sweet thoughts softly whispered on a meditation tape.

I doubt that Bruss sees it that way - by all reports, he's been actively rehabbing and building strength in his time off, and is out there competing when he gets snaps. It was a scout and former O line coach that anointed him pre-draft as a starter at right guard. We all bought in on those expectations and now are faced with "what is" along with Bruss, his teammates, and his coaches.

If he's in a backup role at any position let him be ready to step in, as fully prepared as individually possible, when the starter is hurt or needs a breather. That's how it should work, and used to, before anybody worried about it "hurting" Bruss' playing time.
