Well IMO the dismantling of the team THIS YEAR is an example of exactly that
The Rams did not have to do what they have done this year... they chose to do it
My guess is it's going to be a rough one 43 (As of July 20th 2023)
If your definition of ‘rough one’ is 8-9 wins, then I’m in agreement, Speed. This is not a deep playoff team such as we’ve become accustomed to.
But there will be pleasant surprises at several positions that will give us hope for the future. This will be an overall entertaining season, I think.
As an aside, I think many pundits and not a few fans are overestimating the damage from our vet personnel losses in this cap purge.
AR on offense
Perkins
Wolford
ARob on defense
Gaines
Scott
Long
Burgess
Troy Hill
Hollins
Terrell Lewis
Rapp
Dixon
Orzech
None of these guys were ‘must haves’ if we’re being honest. Nice players at times and some fan favorites but none were real difference makers.
So now we’re down to Wagner, Ramsey, and Gay.
Wagner had a good year but was showing signs of slippage. And at a position where Rams already had Jones. This was an understandable cap move.
Ramsey’s salary was a back breaker and he no longer seemed to be capable of being that shutdown CB that he once was. A painful but understandable cap move if you ask me.
Gay had a great run as kicker but this Tanner Brown kid seems like a good replacement for a helluva lot less money.
Then Rams had themselves a very promising draft and have made 4-5 modest vet signings where they felt too thin, plus McVay hired some quality asst coaches sprinkled throughout the ranks.
This sure looks like an 8-9 win team to me, y’all.
