That's a strange take.
From experience of being in a union when I was much younger I can tell you that union leadership doesn't always look out for the best for their members, but does look out for how they can best get along with management/owners to get the best for themselves. Of course the union leadership does get some degree of "good" for their members but they also want the best for themselves, meaning there is more closeness to management than the rank and file realize.
