I wrote a law review article about White v. The National Football League which was published. This was the case that essentially established NFL Free Agency in 1994. I called BS on the Free Agency label.

The centerpiece of the argument was that so long as their a franchise tags and transition tags, which came after 4 years of mandated service - the notion of Free Agency was a Myth. In fact, given that the average NFL career is only 4 years and true FA doesn't happen until then, the NFL saves a boat load of cash. Further, the pie from which the players take their revenues i.e., the Defined Gross Revenue excludes a good chunk of income from the players - 35 % of revenues when I wrote the article 30 years ago.
It seems like a huge deal because we see the headline #'s but for most in the league, it truly is a myth and they never get the big bucks and now, even the studs in the RB division are feeling the crunch.
Maybe my conclusions were better than I thought lol!
