Re: Could Kobie Turner be perfect complement to AD?

After reading the article you realize how much they wanted this kid. The entire staff wanted this kid and the reason they waited until the 3rd round was because the were very sure he would last that long.

When looking at the defensive line it would seem that size is rather lacking. Bobbie Brown is really the only size guy and so far he really hasn't done much. I am guessing that the defensive staff feels Brown is ready to step up and fill a bigger role.

While many compare Turner to Donald even though everyone knows there is no comparison that is really possible I think that possible another similarity between the 2 is that due to their size they were not ranked highly in the draft. Obviously Donald should have been the 1st pick in the 2014 draft but lasted to 13 and who knows how far he would have fallen if the Rams didn't pick him. His Height and Weight were the only negatives against him. His production was off the charts, his work ethic, speed and strength were 2nd to none at his position.

Turner similarly was ranked low for based solely on size. He had great production, was a leader on his team, had good strength and power. Not Donald like but still very impressive. He probably also got dinged because he played at Wake Forest which is not a respected football program.

Still I come away feeling that the Rams Brain Trust loved this guy. It would be interesting to see how high he ranked on their board. I bet it was higher than the 3rd round and that the 3rd round was really more of a point where they were not ready to gamble any further that someone else would draft him.

When drafting in the 3rd round or later you are really striking it rich if you find a really good player. Rams did that with Kupp who was supposedly to slow. When you see on of those types of guys you don't worry about their size you pick them because you have a high level of confidence they are going to be a really good player. That seems to be why they picked Turner and we will have to wait and see if they were right. If they score big I am sure they will toot their horn and the stories will follow.

I doubt he plays DE, but if he started he'd be fastest one we've had

Turner certainly became one of the most pleasant surprises of 2023, huh?
