Forgive me, but what role did Robinson play, and how will his Run D be replaced? I thought he was a nose like Gaines but didn't they all rotate, JY53?
a 4i technique is inside shoulder of a tackle. A 5 is outside shoulder of a tackle. That was Robinson's position.
Rams call it a DE.
His assignment is the B-gap.
Gaines was a 1T/OTech, he was mostly an A-Gap player, but Gaines played more than nose, he'd play in passing situations
and would move out and have the B-Gap as an assignment
The yellow highlight is where Robinson would play
kind of inside the tackle...and if there was a shift
he might be slight outside the tackle
The red lines are the NT, here Copeland, Gaines was usually there.
Donald played a 3/4I he'd play inside shoulder of tackle to outside shoulder of the guard
He was a B-Gap player--mostly
Yes, Gaines and Copeland rotated on the nose, "A-Gap" players and Copeland and Brown moved around
Replacing Robinson---my opinion is Copeland will be the starter at the 4i/5, that B-gap player and Jonah Williams and Brown IV
fighting it out for the backup spot . . . Carter...is that position, too
It's hard to know with the rookies---Kobie IMO is a Donald position guy. Johnson and Vincent
seem like they can play all three postions, my guess, and it's just based on highlights
in college is Johnson will be more of a nose and Vincent more of a Donald-position
but will have to see who plays where. Coaches may see things none of us see
so possible Johnson could play both. Maybe that will help him make the team
able to play multiple techniques.
The depth could be
DE-Copeland-Williams-Brown IV-Carter
NT-Brown III-Copeland-Johnson
DT-Donald-Kobie-Murchison-Vincent
