I think you can look at the defense and see a bunch of question marks right now. We will have a bunch of unknown players in the rotation and some who have a bit of experience and the experience isn't all good.
You never know how much improvement you will see with young guys. We are all down on Kendricks and many on Bobby Brown but who is to say they won't step up. I think this preseason will be really interesting to see who looks to be stepping up and putting on the big boy pants. While we will gain a better understanding of who the real players are the preseason won't tell us that much about the quality of the defense. They will still run a vanilla defense for the most part and it won't be until the regular season for us to see how good they are.
Barring a slew of injuries the offense is playoff caliber and the offensive line is much better equipped to play smash mouth football which has been lacking for a few years. If the offense can play ball control football it will help the defense a whole bunch. If the defense can rise to a middle of the road level defense, which is a big if, we can make the playoffs. If we end up as a bottom 3rd defense we are probably hosed.
It seems like a bunch of things have to go right for our defense to be good which is usually a really bad thing. However, we do seem to have lots of potential solutions, except maybe at CB, where good competition and the potential to start of be in the rotation is a real possibility for a lot of our young guys. There will be surprises for sure but we better hope that there a a bunch of great positive surprises for this defense to be solid.

I’m curious as to how Morris is gonna scheme and game plan this young D this year. And how much influence he allows from his new asst coaches.
