Not true. Sorry. Depends. It's not a place to hide a weak sister. It's skill set - Quickness, toughness, mental processing & skills. If you are gonna play zone, blitz off the slot, have nickel fit in run game, have nickel rotate to multiple different zone positions other than his own, you need a certain skill set, and it can be done by a great athlete if you have one that has the right skills. It can be done by a lesser athlete, if he has the skills.
Nickel, in its full repertoire, and the skills and mental needed to play is rare and not many guys can do both at an above avg starter ability both outside abd inside.
So, sorry, I reject the notion that Ramsey was somehow put inside because he was a poorer athlete. He was put in the position to be a playmaker. I know you're pissed at him, but let's not go overboard.
They were not hiding Ramsey in the slot, they were FEATURING him. It was the best place to play him in certain situations because he had the skills to make plays others couldn't.
But sorry, but what you say is reality just isn't so. Too many of the best athletes in a secondary play slot.
