Just as an example, wouldn’t it be poor form to hire the OL coach before the OC? A cart before the horse thing? The OC might have different preferences than the OL coach. This, of course, applies to all O assistants to be hired.
Unless McVay intends to continue being the de facto OC? Play calling included? Gulp…
Morris’ situation complicates the D hiring process even more. I guess McVay just has to compile a ‘what if’ list of DC candidates until he learns Morris outcome as potential HC elsewhere, only then furiously starting his DC interviews.
Unless McVay intends to replace Morris anyway? Just waiting and hoping for a friendly landing for his guy to spare him embarrassment?
McVay’s first moves will reveal a lot as to his overall strategy, especially on the O side. I’m hoping that the first shoe to fall is for our new OC.
