QuoteRFL Of course, 6 PS quarters wouldn't get him there either. But he would have a lot more chances to face and deal with NFL fronts than practices and scrimmages could give him. I don't have any problem with your concerns. I don't share them but I know they're valid issues. My specific disagreement with you is in that statement, and your view of scrimmages. QuoteAlbaNY_Ram The 4 starter-quality TEs who signed 2nd contracts before Higbee averaged 5.5% of the cap. The cap in 2020 will be $200M. In adjusting for inflation those 4 contracts averaged $11M a year in '2020 dollars'. I think it stands out that Higbee DIDN'T sign for that. I don't think that makes him a bargain. QuoteJamesJM I think you bring up a VERY good point and I'm certainly not so adamantly restricted to what I happen to 'think' is the case regarding preparation that I discount contrary views. Hell, I've got a great example right at hand: Two weeks ago our HS played it's first game. We knew the OL was suspect.... make that HIGHLY suspect.. and that turned out to be precisely correct. QuoteRams43 All due respect, RFL, but I think that you’re worrying about this more than it deserves. On the one hand replacing 2 OL starters has a certain amount of risk, sure. But replacing OL starters simultaneously is commonplace in the NFL. One to three new ones per season is fairly normal. On the other hand, these kids are not pure rookies fresh off their respective college campus, eitby zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuotePHDram Well you keep saying that without telling me how you define what the market is. If you cant define the market you cant say its above or below it. That's a simple fact as well. But, that's simple. You look at what guys up for 2nd contracts at any given position get or got in any given year. Albany just applied that logic in his post above.by zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuotePHDram Interesting way to look at the value of the contract. Even so. It doesn't seem "below average" it seems more at like at the average. But I'm kinda eyeballing it. The contract is below MARKET, not below average. "Average" doesn't mean anything in this context. 2nd contracts go up a certain percentage every year. That's true of every position. The players themselves claim that the scrimmages with other teams gave them opportunities they would not get in pre-season games. It was live action but the situations were scripted. QuoteSaguaro I mean that in two ways. 1. I thought the article was too negative, but it's got some substance to it. I actually enjoyed reading it, even it I didn't agree with a lot of it. Quoteferragamo79 As the Rams are giving out large contracts to Goff, Gurley, Cooks, Donald......they will have to fill starter positions with inexpensive players: e.g., Noteboom, Allen, Gaines, etc. There is only so much money to go around and to keep the machine going, they will have to bring in inexpensive talent. QuoteSpeed_Kills but there were clearly varying opinions its not a big deal obviously Wentz was more pro ready because he came from a college pro system. That was said in response to this question: who was more NFL ready, Goff or Wentz? You took the question as, what was being said about their pro readiness by analysts and pundits when they were drafted. Okay. But that's not the questby zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteSpeed_Kills but obviously that is the case I think zn is saying that no one said it was Goff and we know that's not the case as confirmed in my video link I didn't say no one. I directly said some people tried the "Cal played stronger opponents" argument.by zn - RamsFootballFans.com

QuoteSpeed_Kills I will say that I seem to recall that neither was especially pro ready of the two I recall Goff getting the edge and for the reasons given in the video One or two guys tried that based on the idea that Cal played a tougher schedule. QuotePeoriaRa In a year or two we look at this like a Havenstein contract - one that looks cheap in hindsight. Seems high to me right now, but "In SncVay We Trust." Higbee's contract is not in keeping with recent TE 2nd contracts. It's below market. Since 2nd contracts always go up, btw, that means every single 2nd contract signed eventually appears cheap in hindsight. Higbeby zn - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRamUK I was having a conversation with a friend back in the UK about Goff and Wentz and I could remember that the pundits thought that one or the other was more ready to start from day one. By 2021 both JG and AD will be on their 2nd contracts with a combined cap hit of at least 60 M. The 2021 cap is supposed to be around 220 M. 60% to 65% of that is around 132-143 M. That leaves room for how many more big contracts? (of 8 M or more.) I say around 6-7 guys. Besides Donald and Goff, these are the guys already under contract in 2021. QuoteFirst, I am deeply confused by one aspect of McVay’s handling of the roster in the pre-season. I do not understand why our starting LG and C, both 2nd year guys with almost no experience, never played. The apparent principle was that starters didn’t play. QuoteLMU93 It's really not. It's just saying that, yes, they've given him a new deal averaging $33.5M over four years. And that new deal does not kick in for 2 more years and so over the next 6 years he is making $161M in aggregate.
