It's really not. It's just saying that, yes, they've given him a new deal averaging $33.5M over four years. And that new deal does not kick in for 2 more years and so over the next 6 years he is making $161M in aggregate. Some people waking up to the Goff news think he's making it over 2019-2022 when it's 2021-2024. And that helps answer those breathlessly saying "how can the Rams possibly afford all these big contracts?.." Well, mainly because they won't overlap very much.

But it does lead to the next discussion. How many more big contracts can they afford when they have both AD a JG with big extensions? Of course the math on that does not start till 2021.
They have more extension candidates than they can actually pay.
