The key long term deal is Peters imo. Whether to pay him or not will decide the quality of our defense for many years. Right now I do not think we should pay him big money. Same can be said for Fowler as well. Other than Goff/Kupp,I don't see anyone else on Offense making new big money soon. Maybe Everrett if he keeps improving or an import at LT.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
The one year deals strike me as overpaying for flexibility. Given we have current year cap space we are able to not risk long term constraints(multi year deal on talent with questions). Most teams, due to a lack of current year cap space, use future cap space to create additional current year cap room--through restructures that transfer salary to signing bonus money that is then amortized oby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com

I thought Conwell was quite good. Underutilized but made an impact. Point made though and I agree.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Im tapped out of Higbee. And it is a super important role in McVay's offense. Mostly the blocking, but given a proficient blocker I expect McVay has alot of plays for a prolific receiver. Higbee has trouble walking at time on the field. However, I would draft alot of dbs this year.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Very improbable he lasts to us. Metcalf is an easy auto pick if he is there for us. Slants, Comebacks, Streaks and posts. That is his game and he is very impressive. My preference for a falling player to land in our laps would be TJ or Fant one of the Iowa TEs.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
We should trade down and draft dbs. After this year Peters, Talib are up and JJ, Weddle the year after. Whatever holes we have on the dline are nothing compared to the back seven.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Generating pressure on 10% of one's pass rush snaps is a low good level for pass rushers. Clay was 30/376 last year. Well over 10% from 2014-2017. That said he looked shot and done to me last year. Where in prior years he had a burst and power he just got stopped dead at the line. I dont like this signing.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Good post. You bring a couple questions to the table--allocation of free agent dollars, and availability of free agents by position. The reason I advocate drafting many players of a position is due to: 1. the positional value(contribution to winning); 2. the likelihood I hit on a player(player becomes min good or better); 3. if I hit I get that player cheap(rookie deal) for 5 years. Thanks. Great point regarding scarcity. Seems like that is solvable by using a non-linear player grading scale. For example: 90+: HOFer 65+: Pro bowler 32+: Good player 16+: Avg player 8+: Fringe player This would give the HOFer at a position less correlated with winning a substantial lift in the selection process versus a good player at a very correlated position. Basically, we areby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
When deciding which player to select and when in the draft has anyone considered applying a positional value to the selection criteria. Most teams without a starting caliber QB apply this naturally--the qb becomes the number one need. What about quantifying that positional value for every selection? First we would determine the value of each position in regards to that position contributing tby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Usually guaranteed money has been signing bonus dollars but that is changing into both signing bonus and salary dollars in some contracts. The answer is all money counts against the cap. Signing bonus money is amortized over the length of the contract. For example, a 20 million bonus on a contract of five years adds 4 million to the cap charge each year. 20 million/5 years. The total cap cby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com

Given the fact that elite offenses throw the ball in less than 2.5 seconds now, I believe elite coverage is better for winning than elite pass rush. Something to consider. Five years ago I would have said pass rush all day. But one coverage liability gets exposed brutally now a days. See 2018 Jaguars.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Houston had 2 pressures every game last year and a total of 53. Despite being in coverage 101 of his 400+ snaps. He can play.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Coo, thanks for the feedback. I just dont see stopping the run as an issue. The Saints Kamara'd us and the Pats Edelman'd us. Matching up in coverage vs 5 receivers is the best chance to win imo. Brees and Brady get rid of the ball too fast to bank on a pass rush to stop. If I team commits to the run, I believe scheme can slow them down. But if not, if they are running then our offense shby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Totally different players imo. Houston is a top ten edge rusher--he was last year. Mosley is an inside backer who makes his cash as run stopper.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm signing Houston for one year and specifically for the playoffs. This is not an invest in the future player. Perhaps he teaches the young edge players the game for a year. Mosley will likely be over 10 mil per I think. Investing that much over multiple years for a run player is money not spent well. What about Mosley appeals to you?by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Any thoughts on Dameon Barber of Nevada? Thanks.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Houston by a mile. Cj is a run defender--his coverage is weak. We need backers that can cover first. Stop the run with scheme but stopping the pass, which the elite offenses we will see in the playoffs use, needs players.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Houston is not the player he was but is much better than what we have currently. He is an impact pass rusher still. If we can sign him for 8 mil or less we should do it.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Weddle is a good player. But contrary to the general opinion of this board, so is LaMarcus. Weddle's job will be the same as Joyner's, protect against the deep ball--with the occasional robber responsibility when John plays deep. We save around $5 million a year in salary given the expectation that LaMarcus signs for $10 mil/per. In regards to the stats floating around regarding Weddle and Jby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Reed is the best pass rusher I saw in college football this year. If I have to comp him it is Leonard Little. He was not invited to the combine...smh. Great get off and bend. Uses hands well. 3rd and long vs Nevada defense this year--Malik Reed destroyed teams from a wide 9 3 man rush. According to PFF he had 57 pressures in 280 pass rushes. Some decent highlights at the below linkby cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
This...he is a successful for a reason. He does not allow himself to focus on the disappointment, occupies his mind and time with trying to improve. McVay is a process guy--he will distract himself in each step of his process and not allow himself the free time to contemplate the past. Many successful people attack failure that way from what I have seen.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
Play him on passing downs as a rookie. Best pash rusher I saw in college ball this year and maybe more.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
And none of that worked in the Super Bowl. The Patriots winning the physical battles on the edge combined with interior OLine struggles stick out to me as fixable with personnel changes. I am getting to where I think an elite blocking/good receiving TE--ie a TJ Hochenson--may have the largest impact for the offense.by cool_hand_luke - RamsFootballFans.com
