This is PURE speculation of course. But.....I think Fisher is feeling the pressure. I think Kroenke has made it clear, or perhaps it doesn't have to be made clear, that after spending a zillion dollars to move to LA and to build a World Class stadium, that the on-field product has to be something commensurate. It's no coincidence that the year they move, they mortgage the farm for a shiny neby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Shoot, if he played 5 or 6, that's probably enough to gain a great deal from. But in the end, to heck with Hasslebeck. The goal OUGHT to be to win games; not to potentially give up wins in order to prep a new QB. So if Keenum is playing very well, then Goff needs to sit. And since Fisher is a player's coach, you already know that he's not about to create team dissension (which it would),by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Spruce is your classic guy who simply has everything except speed and charisma. And the NFL is so high on speed, that they often overlook the obvious: great route running, glue for hands, nice size, courage, technique, and football smarts. All he did was break the Pac12 records for receptions.....that's all! And he wasn't drafted? He comes out in the 1st preseason game and simply took the tby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
"Timing"? When the ball hits you in the hands and you drop it, that isn't timing. Quick simply doesn't seem to know how to adjust to balls. He doesn't have the instincts, and for his size, he doesn't fight for the ball. A perfect pass, lightly defended, has to be given to Quick. And even then (as we have seen) there is no certainty that he'll catch it. I thought it was amazing dby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Want to know which non-established player is being given a real chance to stick with the team? Count their reps during the preseason games. The one exception might be those rookies who they don't want anyone else to know about, and who they hope to waive and then put on the PS. Mannion is the 3rd QB. The goal is to co-prepare Keenum and Goff as starters 1 and 1a. There is simply not enougby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
This guy is a time bomb just waiting to go off. He somehow convinces the right people that despite his history, he'll be a good boy now. And that usually lasts a very short time. The Rams don't need this. It's one thing to be immature; it's another to be a drug/alcohol guy. We've all seen this countless times.....Randy Gregory, Aldon Smith, Tre Mason, etc. It's one thing to draft a guy andby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
The issue about Goff isn't the obviously superior arm talent. The issue is that a rookie can only absorb so much, so fast. Don't kid yourself. Rookie QBs have their playbooks cut way down when they start. There is no way for them to get it all in a matter of a few practices. Could Goff play game 1 and muddle through? Sure. But why do that when we have a guy who can do it better rightby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I really doubt that Coples makes the team. It is clear now that he can't play DE for the Rams. He's too slow and plodding. So, they're trying him at DT. I think he'll be among the first cuts to "give him a chance to catch on with somebody else" (I hope they do the same with Quick). Easley had a MUCH better game this time out, and is well ahead of Copley. Westbrooks just getsby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
That is just another media talking point. No college QB is truly Pro-ready. They have an entire new offense to learn, and the NFL game is so different than the college game no matter what O a QB came from in college. I admit that there are some exceptions to the rule (to a point) especially with college QBs that come from homes where Dad was a Pro QB (Luck, Manning) and so they have more mentby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I just don't see the talent level of our WRs as being sufficient to keep more than 5. If they keep 6 (doubtful) the last guy will really be a STs guy who can help at WR in a pinch. They can put a couple of guys on the PS in case injury forces a need. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a move made for a vet WR either just at or just before the first cutdowns. Could even involve a 7th round picby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Not sure what some of you seen in Marquez. I see a pretty good STs guy who is maybe a 5th or 6th WR. He's a try hard guy who is tough enough. But even if he had been lost for the year, I'm not sure he makes the team anyway.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Every team needs that receiving threat that forces the D to make adjustments. The Rams had hoped Tavon Austin would be that guy. I don't think he is; but he is a terrific weapon if used well. A true #1 WR changes things dramatically. The Dallas O is a different animal with versus without Dez Bryant. Cincy is not as dangerous on O without AJ. That said, a TE who is simply not guardable canby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
It would cost the Rams $4.5 mill in dead money to cut him. But I see him right now as bout our 5th best corner behind TruJ, Gaines, Hill, Joyner, and Roberson. I didn't like the signing at the time and felt like it was a bit of a panic move when they let JJ go and Gaines' status was still questionable. I'd bet we're going to see him next week working as the slot/nickle corner to see if he cby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I thought the ref did exactly the right thing. They both threw haymakers at each others' heads. Those things have a way of multiplying during a game. Besides, they know it's preseason, too. I understand it can happen in the heat of competition. But no mulligans here. Besides, you can tell from Fisher's words that he's not upset by it. It happened, Joyner ideally should have held his tempeby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
The notion that it would be a problem if Keenum played so well that it takes awhile for Goff to break into the starting lineup is simply wrong-minded. And, as typical, the reason for the "problem" is because the Rams paid so much in draft stock to get Goff. This is a false pressure coming from a schizophrenic mindset that somehow if you draft a QB high, and think he's going to beby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
For the life of me I don't know why this guy is still on the team. He has NO WR instincts. Lousy hands. Inconsistent. It's his 4th year and he is no better than he was in his second year. I can't figure out if Fisher and Snead just don't want to give up on this high 2nd round mistake; or if Quick has something on Fisher. Because otherwise, why Quick is still around and making money is beyoby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I think we're going to see a few surprises in our secondary. For one, I don't think FS is at all settled. For another, Sensabaugh has been a HUGE disappointment. I don't think he's defensed one single pass. He just seems to chase WRs around, and tackle them (eventually) after they've caught the ball. I think the star so far has been Troy Hill. He reminds me of McCleod in some ways.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I hope that neither Mannion or Keenum just consider themselves placeholders. I don't care how many draft picks the Rams gave up for Goff, let the best QB play. And it would be wonderful if we had a couple of guys always duking it out for starting time because they are that good. That's how players get better; and it's how teams get better. Plus it builds depth.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Yes, it has to be a balanced approach. But if anyone thinks it doesn't matter to the players whether they win or lose a preseason game, think again. They should try to win every game, tempered with the reality that preseason games have a purpose in sorting out players and not wearing them out. But if ever team needs to win and believe it WILL win, and not be satisfied with merely a good efby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Liked him coming out. What helps though, is a good offense line, a superstar WR, and a future HOF TE. Nonetheless, I see a good NFL starting QB in the not too distant future.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
And here is why: We don't have 7 good enough players at WR to keep 7. Fisher will keep more or less the 53 best PLAYERS. That might mean he'll keep one fewer LB for one more DB. Or he'll keep one fewer WR for one more TE. Or whatever combo you can come up. It all depends on talent level. We don't have but maybe 4 NFL quality WRs in camp: Britt, Austin, Spruce, and Cooper...and oby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Why would he? He can make as much money in the college ranks. He won't have a bunch of belly aching players. He has no GM to crosswise with. He's in charge and can recruit whoever he wants. He won't be back in the NFL and if he does, he'll have to wear both hats to make it work. Besides, by the end of it, many of the Niners players were kind of done with his antics. My choice would beby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Since some here get a bit uptight when using player comparisons I won't do that, but Spruce to me passes the eye test in every way. How this guy didn't get drafted just goes to show how flawed the NFL tunnel vision of an ideal of Height, Speed, Weight is. The only thing Spruce lacks is speed (not that he's slow), but he does run right at 4.6 for a 40 (so did Jerry Rice). But he has nice siby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
There are ways to speed up wine fermentation and aging. It is drinkable; but it doesn't turn out as well as wine that is allowed to take its time. I'm convinced that it is the same with rookie QBs. Just because they can manage to find a way to hang in there, and even do OK, doesn't mean that it was the best course of action. Some of Luck's recent struggles can, I think, be traced back to notby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm talking about the Rams, of course. No QB has looked very good under Fisher, from Bradford forward. So it shouldn't surprise that neither did Foles, and a more QB friendly coach and system would work to highlight his talents and hide his flaws.by RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
There's no one reason that the Rams ranked last in passing yards last year. 1) A conservative HC 2) Darn poor WRs 3) An inexperienced Oline 4) QB issues galore But ranking last they did. How many teams went to the playoffs who ranked at the absolute bottom of the passing stats? The concern I have is that they didn't do much to address WR (I still think Spruce is going to be a stby RockRam - RamsFootballFans.com
Going by his history with the Rams, I think what we'll see is: DBs 10 Gaines, Hill, Roberson, Tru J, Joyner, Alexander, McDonald, Davis, Sensebaugh, ? This stuff about Keenum not having arm strength is bunk. He has exactly the same measured velocity as Jameis Winston. Anyone questioning his arm strength? Keenum was clocked at 55 mph, which is very good. Goff by the way is 58. The "canon arm" Paxton Lynch threw 59. So whatever issues Keenum might have, it sure as heck isn't arm strength. I want the QB to start who will give us the best chance to win immediately. If Keenum starts, but Goff keeps picking things up in practice, and in a few games is ready to start, fine. But asking a rookie QB to pick up an entire playbook and all the vagaries of NFL play in a matter of a few practices after college is asking a great deal. I don't care how high he's picked.
