That assume there is one answer to "why" . Professionals in the area of social science including psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, researches, etc have studied this for years . The difficulty is there is no one answer to "why". We know that there are many, many reasons people become convinced they need their day in the sun even if it means the end of their own life. . Depression, loneliness, physical unbearable pain, marital issues, mental disabilities, uncontrollable hate and anger, etc. However, there is one common denominator in mass shootings and it can be controlled. Moreover, we all know what it is.
